Blumenau was discovered by the German philosopher Herman Bruno Otto Blumenau, who was the first to arrive in this town in 1850. He gave his name to city and transformed it into a notable textile center. Since then, Blumenau has maintained Germanic architecture with famous buildings such as the Museum of the Colonial Family. The main attraction in Blumenau is the "traditional" Oktoberfest, a beer-festival in a German-style. It is the second largest street party in Brazil, after Carnival. There is a mixture of bars, live music and chopp (beer). Blumenau is a worthy visit for those who enjoy beer-festivals, German traditions and Middle European cuisine.
