Rio de Janeiro, nicknamed A Cidade Maravilhosa – “The Marvelous City” is world renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and location, nestled between steep, green mountains and crystal clear seas. Rio is one of the most important cultural and economical cities in Brazil and features some of country’s most famous attractions such as the Pão de Açúcar, the Corcovado – recently acclaimed one of the seven new world wonders -  Copacabana and Ipanema beach. The city is full of energy and Cariocas, the locals of Rio, are known for their care free spirit and charm.

We will stop at the Imperial Museum, which served as the summer residence of the imperial family during the 19th century. Visitors can view various historical pieces such as the scepter and crown of Emperor Don Pedro II, historical documents, imperial jewelry and the priceless pieces of art that belonged to the imperial family. During our stay in Petropolis we will also visit the Crystal Palace, which was built in France in cast iron pre-molded structure upon the Conde D'Eu and Princess Isabel's request, and is used today for concerts and theatrical presentations. Our last stop will be the São Pedro de Alcântara Neo Gothic Cathedral, a French neogothic building dating back to 1884. Within the confines of the Imperial Chapel visitors can view the resting place of the remains of Don Pedro II, Dona Teresa Cristina, Conde D'Eu, and Princess Isabel. Note: Most visitation sites are closed on Mondays. Duration: 8 hours

Over a million tourists a year visit the world famous Pão de Açúcar, or Sugar Loaf Mountain in English, which has become an iconic symbol of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Rising up from small peninsula at the entrance of Guanabara Bay, its name is said to refer to its resemblance to the traditional shape of concentrated refined sugar loaf. The tour is done in two steps by glass cable-cars. The first cable-car takes passengers to the top of Urca Hill, which rises 215 meters above sea level and offers spectacular views of the entire bay its islands. From Urca Hill, passengers continue in a second cable car to the top of Sugar Loaf which rises 395 meters above sea level and offers a 360 degree view of the entire city including Botafogo and Copacabana Beaches, the Corcovado and downtown Rio. The tour is followed bt a visit to the world famous Maracana Stadium.

On 1st January, 1502, a Portuguese squad commanded by Gonçalves discovered Guanabara Bay. Being that it was the month of January and that the bay appeared to be a large river mouth, he named it Rio de Janeiro (River of January). Based on water volume, Guanabara Bay is the largest bay in the world, and has several islands such as the Governor's Island, Fundão and Snakes Island. To the west, lies Rio de Janeiro, and facing east - the municipal district of Niteroi.
